How is Newark Airport (EWR) like?

I am travelling from Toronto to Stockholm via Continental Airlines, and the stop is at Newark. This is my first time flying alone and a bit worried that would somehow get lost in the airport and/or miss my flight. Would a 3 hr layover time be enough to get past security checkpoints in Newark or is more time necessary? What terminal would this flight most likely be in? I’m also worried that the checked bags need to be gathered and rechecked-in again for the connecting flight but hopefully this is not the case.
